Window Restoration Demonstrations Patrick Kennedy- Pine Mountain Settlement School Restoration expert Patrick Kennedy will demonstrate re-roping, reglazing, cutting glass and adding weather stripping to wood windows. This is an ongoing demonstration that you can watch, learn or ask questions at. Come for 10 minutes or stay for an hour. Rookwood Tile Jim Robinson, The Rookwood Pottery Company Jim Robinson, expert artist and Glaze Chemist will inspire you while leading a spirited conversation about Rookwood Pottery’s return and their recent role in the Restoration of Chicago’s Monroe building. Rookwood participated in the foundation of clays, glazes and tile shapes of the 1911 building. The matching of glaze, shape, color, texture and tile pattern which replicated these in look & wear proved to be a challenge that occupied the company for 2 years. TIME: 10:00am-11:00am ROOM: 202
Kentucky Homeowner Historic Tax Credits Mike Radeke, Kentucky Heritage Council Considering historic “rehabilitation”? “…returning a property to a state of utility, through repair or alteration,,, while preserving,,, its historic, architectural and cultural values”. Mike Radeke from the Kentucky Heritage Council will show you how you may be able to qualify for a 30% KY tax credit for homeowners and a 20% tax credit for income producing properties. Since 1980 Gus Thierry of ICS Building Restoration has been specializing in historical residential restoration & renovation. Gus will cover those favorite plaster topics in addition to lime, gauging, stucco, and modern products such as drywall, plasters and finishes including Cal Coat, Glid Wall. European techniques like Venetian and Fresco finishes will add inspiration. Old buildings are “reservoirs” of embodied energy: the energy used to construct them and their materials.
